Reading Workshop
Our class has absolutely loved Because of Winn Dixie. Reading this book helped us on our journey of "getting to know a character." Check out our chart papers below. They tell the story of what we have been working on. The ultimate goal is for students to be able to transfer these skills we practice together to their independent reading book. We have spent time working on written reflections as we follow our mantra - Reading is Thinking!
If you notice, the final chart recognizes the impact of reading 20 minutes every day has on a student. I have shown this to our class and we have had some honest discussion about it. The research is clear - your children should be should be reading all the time and moving through books quickly!

Social Studies
We are meeting with Mrs. Capozolli's class every week as we launch into our Moving West unit. We are currently doing some visual literacy (reading images). Students are challenged to follow the protocol: See Think Wonder Please ask your son or daughter to tell you a little bit about this! We will soon begin researching in groups the time period of pioneers exploring the frontier, California Gold Rush, and even the Oregon Trail.
We have many exciting lessons planned as well as history skill building.
